Call me when it's over

Well, due to my excitement in reading about its eventuality, I pre-ordered this book and promptly forgot about it, basically, until it popped into my mailbox this week. Christmas comes early for anybody even mildly interested in the nascent punk scene in Toronto. I'm only two chapters in and we've heard all about the $0.99 Roxy cinema and the Steel City. This is going to be a sweet break!

Look, it's a cute, young Shadowy Man Don Pyle on the cover! What more could you possibly ask for? Who needs a sunny vacation?

My sister was cool enough to get me into the local high-school's presentation of Teenage Head while I was still in my final year of elementary school. It was just after Gordie had that accident and they called him Crazy Legs and he only played half the gig. I was thrilled.

I would suggest you do some last minute shopping right here.

I dream of pinkie (NSFW)

Reviewing some of the travel snapshots I took this year and came across these from my trip to Montreal in the summer to attend the Fantasia Film Festival. The Cinémathèque Québécoise held a poster exhibition in conjunction with their "Films Érotiques Japonais" retrospective which was centered around Jasper Sharp's book, Behind the Pink Curtain: The Complete History of Japanese Sex Cinema (FAB Press). Always nice to see a celebration of the pink in a fancy art gallery. Wonder if anyone would consider bringing this exhibit to Toronto?

Following orders

What with the anniversary of reunification in Germany via the destruction of the wall and yesterday being Remembrance Day, I feel it's only fitting to take a second to celebrate Nazisploitation films with a few posters I've shamefully assembled through the years. Do enjoy!

Vague

A film poster that seems to hint at some redeeming social value (see it with your mother!) and, perhaps, a lesson taught comes crashing up against a more visceral title and a trailer that relates zero plot but certainly speaks to the newly intended audience.

Carrera con el Diablo!

Saw this on the TV as a kid and was scarred by the rattle snakes and the ending. Yikes!

update on the 99cent Roxy

Remember my earlier post, The Original 99 Cent Roxy... today ? Well, truth be told, those pictures where from Easter. Below is more of a representation of what it looks like today. No idea what is happening to it, but looks like some big changes. And for those who don't know, The Roxy was at Danforth & Greenwood in Toronto.

just add creme de menthe...
