the master of disguise returns
Meant to post this in May when I read in Variety of the new version of Fantomas being prepped to be be directed by Christophe Gans (Brotherhood of the Wolf), written by my pal David Martinez (who has done some amazing supplementary material for French DVD releases of HK films) and by the producer of Asterix at the Olympic Games and Public Enemy Number One. It marks the 14th time the French pulp fiction super villain has attacked the screen since his debuted in some silent serials in 1913. You can learn more about his history over at the International Catalogue of Superheroes. Recently got a decent subtitled copy of the 1965 version and plan to check it tonight. In the meantime, a trailer and some images from the criminal's previous exploits.

Call me when it's over
Well, due to my excitement in reading about its eventuality, I pre-ordered this book and promptly forgot about it, basically, until it popped into my mailbox this week. Christmas comes early for anybody even mildly interested in the nascent punk scene in Toronto. I'm only two chapters in and we've heard all about the $0.99 Roxy cinema and the Steel City. This is going to be a sweet break!
Look, it's a cute, young Shadowy Man Don Pyle on the cover! What more could you possibly ask for? Who needs a sunny vacation?

My sister was cool enough to get me into the local high-school's presentation of Teenage Head while I was still in my final year of elementary school. It was just after Gordie had that accident and they called him Crazy Legs and he only played half the gig. I was thrilled.

I would suggest you do some last minute shopping right here.

I dream of pinkie (NSFW)
Reviewing some of the travel snapshots I took this year and came across these from my trip to Montreal in the summer to attend the Fantasia Film Festival. The Cinémathèque Québécoise held a poster exhibition in conjunction with their "Films Érotiques Japonais" retrospective which was centered around Jasper Sharp's book, Behind the Pink Curtain: The Complete History of Japanese Sex Cinema (FAB Press). Always nice to see a celebration of the pink in a fancy art gallery. Wonder if anyone would consider bringing this exhibit to Toronto?
